Getting started in BMX is easy.  Listed below is everything you need to get started.

Great deal for beginners

 A $99 bike from Hyper Racing that includes a nice frame and decent components to start racing.  It is available in mid-March and includes a free 30 day membership for the ABA.  Go to wal-mart then come to Bumps-N-Berms and experience the downhill challenge.  Here is the link.

A Bicycle:

Handlebars may not exceed 30” in width.

Grips are required and must be sufficient to fully cover and enclose all metal and openings on the handlebar ends.

All kickstands, chain guards, fenders and reflector brackets must be removed.

Pad set securely fastened to the bike is recommended.

The frame and parts must be in good condition with no broken welds or jagged exposures.

Axle ends may not exceed 1/4” beyond the axle nut or must be cut.  No wing nuts are allowed to secure the wheels to the frame or fork.

No bicycle with freestyle pegs will be allowed on the track at any time.

Seat must be fastened securely so it won’t slip during competition.  The seat must not have any exposed metal or sharp edges.

Braking system must be installed and operational.  Hand and/or coaster brakes are acceptable.

All equipment must be safe and in good condition to be allowed on the track.

Eventually you will need a number plate.  A temporary plate will be provided with your membership purchase. 

 

Safety Gear:

Full face helmet is required.  Loaner helmets are available at the track, just ask when you sign-up.

Long sleeves and long pants are required.

Sneakers are recommended but any enclosed shoe is sufficient.

Elbow pads, Shin/Knee guards, Chest Protectors recommended but not mandatory.

Do you have a beginner day or clinics?

Currently none are scheduled.  We hope to have one or two in 2010.  If interested in a clinic please email us at info@bumps-n-berms.org 

There are riders of many experience levels at the track willing to help everyone especially beginners.  The best advice we have is “Just Ride.”  At the track or around the neighborhood, riding your bike is the best way to improve.

 

What times are practice and sign-up?

The track is open for practice during registration.  Saturday from 4-5:30pm and Wednesday from 6-7pm.  Also practice only nights Thursdays from 6-8pm.

 

What time does racing start?

Immediately after registration.  Saturday around 6pm and Wednesday close to 7pm.

 

How much does it cost to begin racing?

ABA membership is $45 yearly for the first family member.

Saturday entry fee is $9.00

Wednesday entry fee is $6.00

 

Where do I find a rulebook?

A printed version is included with the new member packet which you will receive at the track with a completed membership application.  Also one can be downloaded from the ABA by clicking here.
